RESOURCES FOR THE HOMELESS - This Christian ministry works on the streets with the homeless as well as runs a "Transitional Living Center" for single men. New London Homeless Hospitality Center Provides a drop-in center (19 jay St.) during the day for the homeless where they can receive mail, use the Internet, get access to showers, see a visiting nurse, etc. as well as an overnight shelter located at St. James Episcopal Church (76 Federal St.). Is a gardening program that seeks to improve nutrition as well as provide food for those in need in New London (over 7,000 lbs. of food since 2005). A safe and warm place to sleep for the homeless as well as other services, the shelter is located at 42 Jay St. in New London. New London Community Meal Center Located at 12 Montauk Avenue, the meal center serves lunch and dinner (over 70,000 meals a year to 35,000 people) to those in need of a good, warm meal.
PRAYER - We believe very strongly that our local church should be a blessing to our community in a variety of ways. We PRAY for the needs of our community - for strong marriages and families, for the poor, sick, and elderly, for our government officials, our police & firefighters, and so on. If you have a situation in your life you'd like the church family to be praying for, please contact us. God works through prayer and He most definitely answers prayers.
MATERIAL ASSISTANCE -
Also, our FOOD PANTRY is designed to be a supplement for those in need of food. We provide bags of groceries along with a small gift card for perishable items (milk, bread, eggs, etc.). The pantry is available by appointment with the church office (443-1126).
We also often take part in Project Angel Tree at Christmas - bringing gifts to the children of prisoners - and / or Operation Christmas Child - providing shoeboxes full of gifts to needy children around the world.
FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENTS - Throughout the year, we have several events for families here at the church. Some of the ones we often do are our VBS SUMMER DAY CAMP in June, participating in HARKNESS FAMILY DAY in September, the AWANA FALL FUN FAIR in October / November, and different CHRISTMAS programs that have varied from Sunday School Christmas Pageants to Christmas Choir Musicals to a Live Nativity with real animals on the front lawn. The community is always welcome so keep an eye on the web site and come on out.
